Regina Spektor vector

art, drawing, vector
It occured to me only recently that while I've drawn animals, birds, fish,  men and even lamps, I've never created a vector drawing of a woman. I've no idea why not, but maybe it's something to do with my rather messy style and perhaps a subliminal concern that I'd make a hash of it. It's easy drawing blokes - a wrong mark simply adds character, but a slack mark on a woman is a blemish, generally speaking. Anyway, here's Regina Spektor, singer/songwriter and creator of 'Samson' - an achingly, hauntingly beautiful song.

Becks pecs

art, drawing, vector
Drawn for no other reason than I thought it might be interesting to have a go at capturing something of Becks' slightly more rugged and less pretty-boy appearence now that he's approaching early middle-age.

Prof. Rodney Fitch CBE 1938-2014 It was with sadness that I learned only today that Rodney Fitch died a little over a week ago on the 20th October. A tour de force of British design, he created one of the most successful and lucrative design agencies in the world having risen from the most decidedly humble of beginnings. At the height of his powers he was a colossus in the world of retail design and it was during this stage in his life that I came into contact with him. Three years previously I'd given up a career in engineering and sold my house to fund a full-time degree in product design as a mature student. As the course neared its end I made a decision to continue my studies…

Rare return to vectors

drawing, Uncategorized, vector
I haven't quite given up on ever drawing meaningfully again. Jeez, when's there ever the time these days. Anyway, I stayed up way too late to do this and as usual, once I started I couldn't stop. I struggled with the eyes on this one - couldn't get them to track correctly. Actually, this was not made easier because when I get tired my right eye goes a bit cross-eyed and I had to work really hard to make it behave. It's not that I mind drawing my cross-eyed state as such, it's more that it just ends up looking like I couldn't get the gaze right! As usual, click on image to load bigger version. This version (below) has had a bit of noise added to it to see…

Drawing a year on

drawing, vector
I started last year - 2012 - full of good intentions of drawing and painting regularly. Well, that didn't quite happen as rather more pressing events dominated the unfolding year. Anyway, on a whim I decided to tackle another vector drawing only this time it would be a self-portrait. I based it very loosely on an extremely poor quality webcam snapshot taken in low light. The dodgy lighting meant that there was not much detail, especially in the shadows, so I decided to use this as a basis for a rough and ready approach to the drawing itself. Having completed the image and while saving it I was stunned to discover that exactly one year ago almost to the hour I'd also just created a self-portrait. So this represents something…
