Total trout

Total trout

art, drawing, vector
This is the full version of a drawing of a trout I did last year. The earlier version was a crop that I did to add a sense of presence - I wanted the trout to loom large, as it were. I've had requests for a complete view of the trout, so here it is.

The King and Lucille

The King and Lucille

art, drawing, vector
The death of BB King gave me all the excuse I needed to draw him again, this time in vectors. As someone who was larger than life, I've nominally drawn him at A1 size, but of course, since the orginal is in vector format, he can be scaled to almost any size. The image below is cropped closeup of his face.

Regina Spektor vector

art, drawing, vector
It occured to me only recently that while I've drawn animals, birds, fish,  men and even lamps, I've never created a vector drawing of a woman. I've no idea why not, but maybe it's something to do with my rather messy style and perhaps a subliminal concern that I'd make a hash of it. It's easy drawing blokes - a wrong mark simply adds character, but a slack mark on a woman is a blemish, generally speaking. Anyway, here's Regina Spektor, singer/songwriter and creator of 'Samson' - an achingly, hauntingly beautiful song.

Handy things; hands. Blooming difficult to draw too. I've been fascinated by hands, it seems to me, forever. The mastery of the hand-mind-eye relationship and its capacity to deliver near-miraculous material outcomes is undoubtedly a contributory factor in our evolutionary intellectual advancement as a species. I love the complexity of shadow, form, line and tone that hands offer as a subject - they are a real challenge and trying to capture something of their essence is - for me, at least, - a challenge I've never found easy. These seemingly swiftly produced drawings were an attempt to render something of the character and personality of my own hands. My frankly rusty drawing skills haven't made the task easy and it's clear to me that I'm a long way short of…

Rare return to vectors

drawing, Uncategorized, vector
I haven't quite given up on ever drawing meaningfully again. Jeez, when's there ever the time these days. Anyway, I stayed up way too late to do this and as usual, once I started I couldn't stop. I struggled with the eyes on this one - couldn't get them to track correctly. Actually, this was not made easier because when I get tired my right eye goes a bit cross-eyed and I had to work really hard to make it behave. It's not that I mind drawing my cross-eyed state as such, it's more that it just ends up looking like I couldn't get the gaze right! As usual, click on image to load bigger version. This version (below) has had a bit of noise added to it to see…
